Post-Chromodal Out! represents the next step in
Iranian-American saxophonist Hafez Modirzadeh s
quest to create a seamless cross-cultural exchange
between the Persian dastgah and American jazz.
This record introduces a piano re-tuned to a
variation on Persian temperament, performed by
Grammy®-nominated pianist Vijay Iyer, who takes
on the instrument with an improvisatory mastery
befitting his own reputation for combining jazz with
the music of different cultures. The addition of the
re-tuned piano results in music that is like nothing
that has been attempted before. It promises to shake
Western music s harmonic foundation, while still
concentrating on the lyricism and rhythmic sensibility
of jazz, a further testament to the transformational
potential of this unique American art form.
